Afro Fusion Movement
Despite the development of the dance, there has been a resurgence of appreciation for the African and Cuban roots in the past decade.
About The Dance
During the Transatlantic Slave Trade, African slaves were brought to the Americas & Caribbean. Over time, various traditions, cultural elements and music were mixed between the native indigenous people of Cuba and the settled slaves, and combined to form the earliest version of the dance form, El Son. This appeared on the streets of Cuba in the early 1900’s and would later develop into rumba and then into the salsa that we know today.
Despite the development of the dance, there has been a resurgence of appreciation for the African and Cuban roots in the past decade. The roots of salsa has been studied by our current Maestros, and as a result it’s become very popular for many of the afro and cuban movements to be incorporated into our dance style. In this class we teach you base technique on how to execute these movements, and then how to incorporate them into your shines.
